To make the complex network more fluid and effective, can I recommend an optional widget (mentioned in the initial post)? It'll probably allow new Cycle Chic enthusiasts to easily navigate and understand the network. Below are six samples of what I have in mind.

To create an adventure mood, I use what I consider exotic places. My second thoughts sway away from place bias and towards simplicity though.
What do you think? Favorite of the six?
Can you think of a better design?
P.S. New blogs: Mexico Cycle Chic and St Petersburg Cycle Chic.

Same design in world map? Perhaps a newcomer would see the world map as being all-inclusive and quite an adventure too.
Oh yes, a world map is a good idea, thank you!
'for the love of bikes' made a cool widget (in my opinion) and I'm using it for now. See sidebar.
Very worldly. I've long suspected the world to be round and not flat. I'm just not sure if a flat world would look better on a web page, given all the straight edges therein. Maybe make a flat world too as an alternative?
This is such a great tool to have to hand Christa - if there are all these people out there writing about bikes, and all the people reading about them all around the world it helps to show what a great future the bicycle hopefully has ahead of it. Thanks for working on it and sharing!
Mark,
Thanks for the feedback. It's a great way to visualize the growing network.
Suggestions for improvement and collaboration welcome!
Imagine new people are trying the bicycle lifestyle right now, and they may want to travel to bike-friendly places in the future.
This map alludes to URBAN bicycle tourism. The concept is great way to frame the need for bicycle infrastructure development, non?
I like the design on the top right the best. The local is obviously extreme, but not labeled as any one particular country.
